‘Based on the Seven Deadly Sins. There’s a lot going on in this one. I was going even more against the grain than on ‘Night Music’, as I wanted to make something so multi-layered that it had to be listened to many times to really get it – not exactly the Pop ethos. I tend to think no one likes it but actually, big fans turn up at the most unlikely times and places – it’s been used by two dance companies, for instance. Probably the most ambitious project I’ve ever done. Orson Welles once said something like, people have called me over-ambitious like that’s a terrible thing, but if over-ambition is a fault, surely it’s not such a bad one to have.’
